Sonic Distribution LTD, the exclusive distributor for Rupert Neve Designs products in the U.K. and Ireland, has purchased the world’s first 5088 mixing console. The console, serial number 1, will be installed in Sonic Distribution’s brand new, fully operational, state of the art demonstration recording studio facility located at Canalot Studios in west London.
“The Rupert Neve Designs 5088 desk will be the centerpiece of our new demonstration studio and training facility,” said James Young, Managing Director of Sonic Distribution. “We are firm believers in letting our customers try equipment on a project before purchasing and look forward to providing them with the opportunity to work on the latest and greatest analogue mixing desk from Mr. Rupert Neve. The sound quality and performance of Mr. Neve’s audio designs are legendary and we expect the 5088 to become a modern classic.”
“Owners can custom configure the 5088 to include whatever combination of Rupert Neve Designs Portico mic preamp, EQ and dynamics processing modules works best for them,” added Mitch Carey, Sonic Distribution’s Communications Director. “As the studio grows, or if the focus of its work changes, the 5088 can be easily expanded or reconfigured accordingly, making the desk a timeless and future-proof investment.”
Mr. Rupert Neve was recently a guest of honor at the grand opening of the Sonic Distribution demonstration studio, along with some of the biggest names in pro audio, including producer, engineer and mixer Bob Clearmountain and the head of sE Electronics, Siwei Zou. The occasion also marked the start of Sonic Distribution’s sixth year in business.
Owned exclusively by Rupert and Evelyn Neve, Rupert Neve Designs Inc. was founded on passion, experience and a desire to build products embodying the highest musical quality. In continuing his legacy as a pioneer in audio circuit design, Mr. Rupert Neve is currently focusing his talents on creating innovative analogue solutions to the issues facing the modern recording engineer.

In the last 6 months the Portico 5014 Stereo Field Editor and 5016 Mic Pre/ Variable Phase DI have distinguished themselves as essential tools for recording, mix and mastering engineers. By combining powerful, intuitive features with the outstanding sound quality expected from Rupert Neve Designs, the 5014 and 5016 are indispensable to studios of any size.
By using the 5014’s Width and Depth controls it is possible to create new space and dimension inside of traditional stereo mixes. The simple elegance of Width and Depth controls makes adjusting the perceived ambience, space and distance a very intuitive process. These controls sound so pure and musical that they can even be used by classical recordists as well as mastering engineers to enhance or modify the stereo and ambient information. By incorporating the differential equalizer and differential insert, stereo information outside of center can be effected without changing the center image. Inserting compression, expansion, EQ or reverb into the difference can be extremely effective on vocal, drum, or instrument sub groups, and there is no limit to the creative options these controls afford. When the width circuit is disengaged the unit can be used as a high quality, transformer coupled line driver

The 5016 has the same renowned pre-amp design as the 5012 with 72 dB gain, Silk, swept HPF from 20-250 Hz, phase, and 48V phantom paired with a second channel DI/Line input with a variable phase control to adjust for anomalies that can occur with multiple microphones on a single source. Custom designed transformers greatly help to reduce ground hums sometimes associated with unbalanced instrument outputs while adding the sweet, full sound of Mr. Rupert Neve’s vintage designs. The 5016 is ideally suited for use in a control room, the studio floor, or even as a two channel mic and direct guitar preamplifier on stage.
