In a career spanning over 25 years, Gil Norton has developed a well-deserved reputation as a world-class producer. After having garnered widespread recognition for his early work with acts like Echo and the Bunnymen, The Pixies, Throwing Muses, and Belly, Norton is today commonly regarded as one of the leading architects of the alternative rock sound. His recent productions for the likes of Foo Fighters, Dashboard Confessional, and Jimmy Eat World have earned him critical and commercial success alike.
Since the mid ‘80s, Norton has worked non-stop, lending his talents to artists ranging from Patti Smith to Counting Crows. Norton's productions are characterized by their rich textures featuring guitar-driven walls of sound. Well-known as a proponent of vintage outboard gear, Norton favors studio classics like API and Neve boards. Nonetheless, he’s a longtime user of Waves plug-ins. Here’s what he had to say about The API Collection: “I have been working on an original API console and had the perfect chance to compare The API collection to the originals. I compared the 550A and 550B equalizers at different frequencies with + and -12db of gain and was amazed at how accurate the modules were. We did similar tests with the 560B and they sounded equally as impressive.”
